Are you like many North Americans who get a sick feeling in their stomach when it’s time to visit the dentist? You’re part of the majority. Up to 75% of the population experiences dental anxiety. And as many as 8% of people avoid booking an appointment at all due to dental phobia – an immobilizing fear. At Village Periodontics and Dental Implant Center, we realize just how difficult it can be to bring yourself to finally get in your car and drive to our office for your dental implants. To alleviate your anxiety, our skilled team offers sedation dentistry. So no matter how nervous you are, we can make it much easier to achieve the smile-enhancing results you’ve been looking forward to.
Types of sedation dentistry:
IV Sedation:
Under IV sedation, you feel as though you’re in a heavily relaxed state. Some patients don’t remember their visit at all. This makes it easier to sit through multiple procedures in just one sitting and our patients love how relaxed they feel when we are providing dental implant treatment. With IV sedation, we can monitor and adjust your dosage for maximum comfort.
Oral sedatives:
Are you like many people who also struggle with needles? Oral sedatives can calm your nerves. Under this sedative, you will be able to remain awake and aware of what’s happening around you. This method is used for patients with light to moderate anxiety. This form of sedation is very cost-effective and offers great results for dental implants and periodontal treatment.
Nitrous oxide:
Nitrous oxide is light sedation that helps many of our patients get the care they need in relaxing comfort. Used with great success for decades, laughing gas comes with some precautions. For example, we recommend that you do not eat for 3 hours before your appointment and that you avoid laughing gas if you are pregnant, are stuffed up because of a cold or allergies, or if you have an ear infection or have had a recent eye or ear surgery.
Uneasiness and anxiety can hold anyone back. At Village Periodontics and Dental Implant Center you don’t need to let these feelings keep you from benefiting from the dentistry you want and deserve.
